Andrea Carandini is a graphic designer and illustrator specializing in art direction, fashion printing, and trend and color forecasting. A graduate in Art and Design, she has furthered her studies in Madrid and the Netherlands and has worked for brands such as Women’s Secret and Bimba y Lola, as well as collaborating as a trend analyst for projects related to Estudio Gloria Jover, El Corte Inglés, and Inditex. The Fashion Illustration and Textile Graphic Design Course at ESDI allows you to develop your own visual language applied to fashion design. Through a practical and expressive approach, you will learn the full process of textile graphics applied to fashion.
Introduction
The Fashion Illustration and Textile Graphic Design Course at ESDI offers a practical and experimental journey through the main illustration techniques applied to fashion and textile graphics. From line work and sketching to working with colour, watercolour, and collage, the program invites you to explore drawing as an expressive tool, focusing on its direct application to the development of prints and real fashion collections.
The aim of this course is for each student to experiment with materials, graphic languages, and creative processes to develop their own unique and authentic illustration style, consistent with their visual universe. The course will cover the entire textile graphic design process: from creating the initial drawing to digitizing it and then printing it in a fashion collection.

Contents
The Fashion Illustration and Textile Graphic Design Course has a total duration of 40 hours, during which the following contents will be covered:

1. DRAWING/ILLUSTRATION TECHNIQUES.
Practical exploration of illustration techniques (stroke and line, line and stain with India ink/Pentel, watercolor and mixed media/collage, and digital techniques) to develop expressive resources applied to fashion. -
2. COLOUR STUDY.
Creation of the colour chart for a collection and analysis of harmonies and combinations, applying the colour to prints and to the final result of the proposal. -
3. TREND STUDY.
Research and definition of the visual universe through references, coherence and mood boards to specify the art direction of the collection. -
4. PRINTS AND FABRICS.
Analysis of classic prints, classifications and styles to understand graphic resources and their textile application. -
5. RAPPORTS, TECHNICAL SHEETS and MOCKUPS.
Development of repetitions (rapports) and necessary technical conditions, with sheets and mockups, to professionalise the presentation of the work. -
6. ACCESSORIES: HANDKERCHIEFS.
Application of graphic/textile design to the accessory format, working with the handkerchief as a support for printing and collection. -
7. GRAPHIC APPLICATIONS: BRAND COMMUNICATION.
Translating of the graphic universe to communication pieces and resources, reinforcing brand identity and visual coherence. -
8. FASHION COLLECTION.
Development of a mini collection of textile prints/graphics, integrating the entire process worked on in the course in a transversal way. -
9. COLLECTION ILLUSTRATION AND FINAL PRESENTATION.
Closing of the project with final presentation of the work and review of style, technique and evolution of the students.

Materials needed
For the proper development of the course, students must have the following materials:

Sketch paper and paper for mixed media or multipurpose (180–300 g).

Graphite pencils of different hardnesses (2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 8B).

Watercolor pencils/watercolor set.

Digital support if available (iPad/tablets…).

Maria Jacas is a graphic designer and illustrator specializing in fashion print design, with over thirteen years of experience in the textile industry. A graduate in Advertising and Public Relations from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), she has furthered her training in Fashion, Graphic Design, and Illustration, and has worked for brands such as Bimba y Lola and Uterqüe, where she was responsible for art direction, prints, and accessories. She is currently part of the creative team at Nice Things by Paloma S. and has collaborated with Paloma Wool, in addition to undertaking editorial illustration projects and working with brands like La Casita de Wendy.
