COURSE DESCRIPTION

The subject of Art History and Theory is conceived as a fundamental tool for developing critical thinking skills in design students. Its purpose is to provide historical, cultural, and ideological references that help students understand the processes of social and aesthetic transformation from the late 19th century to the present day.

Through the analysis of the cultural context, the ideological framework, and the transmission of ideas, the subject offers conceptual resources so that future designers can interpret the present from a critical perspective.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Explain the relationship between the identity construction of a community and the evolution of its artistic and cultural tradition.
  • To associate relevant historical and cultural data that allows students, as references, to propose solutions to the problems that arise in everyday life.
  • Identify, in the historical-artistic analysis, sustainability criteria that help to build contemporary narratives in the process of designing new products, services and experiences.
  • To relate the history of art to social design strategies that help designers to build inclusive discourses.
  • Adapting the language of historical-cultural studies to present ideas, problems or design proposals orally, in writing or visually, either through the vehicular language or through the use of another language of local and/or international supply.
  • Apply the analysis of historical data extracted from the study of a society and its cultural tradition in the development of conceptual references.
