Dr. Encarna Ruiz, appointed academic director of ESDI-URL

At the Escola Superior de Disseny ESDI we have renewed our management team with the appointment of Dr. Encarna Ruiz as the new academic director. With a solid background in design sociology and analysis of social trends, Encarna assumes this new role after 27 years as part of ESDI as a professor and researcher.

“As the academic director of ESDI, I will continue to support the values ​​that define this institution, which are the commitment to teaching and research in design, always with the idea of ​​contributing to the social, cultural and economic development of our community,” comments Encarna.

Originally from Granada, Encarna has a Bachelor’s degree and PhD in Journalism from the UAB, and has completed a Master’s degree in Sociology of Design from ESDI and is also pursuing a Master’s degree in Digital Art Commissioning. Most of her professional career has been spent at ESDI, having been a professor of design sociology, communication theory and trends for three decades.

Recognized by her extensive experience in the analysis of social and color trends, since 2012, l’Encarna has been the Director of the ESDI Color Lab, the school’s color laboratory. In addition, she is the Spanish representative of the international color association Intercolor, which brings together 17 countries and is in charge of setting trends in colors and materials that will influence the design industry at a glance.
