Javier Guijarro, a young fashion designer who graduated from ESDI, has reached an important milestone in his career: world-renowned singer Charli XCX wore one of his creations during the after-party of the Met Gala 2025. At just 24 years old, Guijarro has already established himself as one of the most promising emerging designers, not only in Spain but internationally, dressing renowned artists such as Bad Gyal, Karol G and, more recently, Charli XCX, who has been part of his creative circle during her “SWEAT” tour alongside Troye Sivan.

A collaboration that transcends fashion
The bond between Guijarro and Charli XCX began months ago, when the artist and her team approached the Catalan designer with the idea of reinterpreting the classic codes of menswear tailoring. The challenge was to design a look that felt authentic to Charli, who is known for her casual style and ability to break fashion rules. Thus was born the piece the singer wore to the Met Gala after-party: a black skirt, a striped shirt, and a jacket with shoulder pads, which maintained the essence of controlled chaos, an aesthetic unique to the artist.

The news of this collaboration spread quickly, receiving coverage from internationally renowned media outlets such as Vogue and Dazed. Both outlets highlighted the value of this collaboration, in which Guijarro not only reinterpreted the codes of menswear but also conveyed his personal and authentic vision of tailoring, connecting with the spirit of Generation Z.
The vision of an emerging designer
Guijarro, who graduated in fashion design from ESDI, has a fascinating story that began in the classrooms of design school. His career took off two months after graduating, whenBad Gyal wore one of his creations in the music video for “Real G.”. Since then, his talent has continued to amaze. After launching his own eponymous brand, he has been invited to present his collections on platforms such as Allianz EGO at MBFWMadrid, where his debut collection, “Debut I,” SS24 dazzled critics.
A personal and unique design
The creative process behind Charli XCX’s Met Gala look was intense and full of challenges. Guijarro recalls how, during the creation process, a power outage in Southern Europe forced them to sew by hand to meet deadlines. Despite the difficulties, the result was a masterpiece packed with detail. The jacket, adorned with thousands of hand-stitched stitches, the Italian wool skirt, and the beret were the key elements that made this look one of Charli XCX’s favorites.
In an exclusive interview with Dazed, Guijarro shared some details about the creation of the garment, such as the use of a shirt that belonged to his grandfather, which added a very personal touch to the piece. “My grandfather’s shirt, which is over 40 years old, was reworked to fit Charli. It was a way to bring some of my family history into the look,” explained the designer, who has always been influenced by classic menswear and the reinterpretation of these elements in his own style.
The future of Javier Guijarro
With the support of artists and designers from around the world, Guijarro continues to build his brand with a clear vision: to reinterpret classic menswear, blending it with current trends and his own cultural context. Currently, the designer continues to work on new collections from his studio at ESDI, with an eye to the future, where great opportunities for his brand are already emerging.
The impact of this collaboration with Charli XCX not only highlights Guijarro’s talent, but also the potential of emerging Catalan and Spanish fashion, which continues to gain ground in the international mainstream. As his career continues to grow, there’s no doubt we’ll be seeing much more of him in the near future.
