From November 5 to December 4, 2026, the exhibition will bring together clothing sketches from ESDI students to explore drawing as a space for creation and experimentation.
The Sabadell Academy of Fine Arts will host, for the first time in its history, an exhibition dedicated to fashion and stage costumes. Entitled “L’art de l’esbós” (The Art of Sketching), the exhibition will focus on the work of students from ESDI Escola Superior de Disseny, a center affiliated with Ramon Llull University, and on the artistic value of clothing design.
Through a selection made by the teaching staff, the exhibition will explore different stages of learning and project development: from the first sketches, where ideas begin to take shape, to proposals that reflect deeper research. Freehand drawings will be displayed alongside digital design, showcasing different ways of imagining contemporary fashion and stage costumes.
The tour will celebrate the sketch as a work of art with intrinsic value: a space for thinking, experimenting with forms, and exploring possibilities. It’s an opportunity to delve into the students’ creative process and discover the decisions that precede the making of a garment.
One of the highlights will be the presentation of an original sketch alongside the finished dress. This juxtaposition will allow visitors to observe how a drawn idea is transformed into structure, drape, and volume in the fabric, and how the transition from paper to fabric gives the project a new dimension.
The exhibition is curated by Marcela Lucci and Jorge Zuazo, from ESDI-URL, and Gerard Torres, who is affiliated with ESDI-URL and the Sabadell Academy of Fine Arts. Student involvement extends to the exhibition’s graphic design, developed by graphic design students from the school.
With this exhibition, the work of ESDI students is incorporated into the Acadèmia’s program and opens a meeting point between art, design and industry, connected with textile tradition and contemporary creation.
