On February 2, 3, and 4, the city of Barcelona will be immersed in the festival of light arts Llum BCN. This cultural event will transform the Poblenou neighbourhood and the area around Plaça de les Glòries into the epicentre of the city’s cultural activity for three days. Organised by Barcelona City Council, Llum BCN will bring together the interventions of creators in various fields of the visual arts, ranging from contemporary art and design to architecture, and from technology to lighting design. Strategically located at the intersection of three of Barcelona’s most important avenues (Avinguda Meridiana, Gran Via de Les Corts Catalanes and Avinguda Diagonal), the REFLƎXES project is a captivating synthesis of light art and the dynamic urban environment. This urban crossroads is the site of an impressive five-metre diameter sphere made from a highly reflective material. Inspired by the dawn and the reflections and splendour of the neighbouring Torre Glòries, this work interacts with the natural and artificial light of the city. The choice to colour the ground in warm tones enhances the perception of a transition between the surrounding landscape and its reflected projection on the surface. It is a point of convergence that sublimates the intersection of the avenues, transforming it into an ever-changing stage that captures the fleeting magic of Barcelona.
The team responsible for this intervention is made up of the students María Pintor, Judit Torcal, Jelwen Arconado, and Clàudia Campo, under the supervision of the teachers David Pablo and Raúl Fidalgo. The collaboration of Xavier Vinaixa, lighting consultant, has been fundamental to the realisation of this project.
With Llum BCN, Barcelona is preparing for three days of intense artistic expression that will illuminate the city with the creativity and splendour of the light arts.
