ARTISTIC EMBROIDERY

ESDI’s Artistic Embroidery Course introduces students to traditional and contemporary embroidery techniques applied to fashion, with a practical and creative approach. Throughout the program, you will develop technical precision and aesthetic sensibility to create textile pieces with artistic value.

Introduction

Embroidery is a discipline that combines technique, tradition, and artistic expression, and has played a fundamental role in the history of fashion, especially in the realm of haute couture. This course offers an introduction to the main needlepoint embroidery techniques, familiarizing students with the artisanal processes and their creative potential within contemporary design.

Through practical and progressive exercises, you will develop manual dexterity, control of movement, and the application of embroidery to different fabrics. The course places special emphasis on experimentation and the development of your own artistic language, applying the techniques learned to create samples and designs with an artistic dimension.

The program is divided into 6 content blocks that will guide you step by step through the entire process:

  • 1. EVOLUTION OF EMBROIDERY IN THE HISTORY OF FASHION.

    Analysis of the role of embroidery throughout history and its relevance in the development of fashion and haute couture.

  • 2. EXAMPLES OF EMBROIDERY IN HAUTE COUTURE: TECHNICAL ASPECTS AND SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS.

    Study of haute couture references to understand professional-level techniques, materials, and finishes.

  • 3. NEEDLE EMBROIDERY TECHNIQUES AND INTRODUCTION TO THE LUNEVILLE TECHNIQUE.

    Learning the basic techniques of hand embroidery and an initial introduction to Luneville needle embroidery.

  • 4. CREATION OF FIGURATIVE, GEOMETRIC AND ABSTRACT DRAWINGS.

    Development of visual compositions adapted to embroidery using different graphic languages.

  • 5. SELECTION OF MATERIALS AND USE OF COLOR ACCORDING TO THE DESIGN.

    Exploration of threads, fabrics and color combinations according to the aesthetic intention of the project.

  • 6. FINAL PRESENTATION OF THE SAMPLES.

    Preparation and presentation of final pieces that integrate the techniques and concepts worked on.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

This course is designed for individuals interested in fashion design, textiles, and craft techniques who wish to learn embroidery from a practical and creative perspective. It is especially suitable for design students, those studying textiles, or those in other artistic disciplines who want to incorporate embroidery into their creative process.

It is also geared towards creative and professional individuals seeking to expand their technical skills and explore new forms of expression through hands-on work. No prior knowledge is required, only an interest in experimentation, attention to detail, and artisanal work.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • To learn about the materials and tools specific to artisanal embroidery.

  • Develop basic technical skills in the use of the needle and different embroidery stitches.

  • To learn the Luneville embroidery technique.

  • Apply embroidery in graphic compositions and creative proposals.

  • Explore the use of color and materials in relation to the design.

  • Develop precision, control, and sensitivity in manual work.

  • Create final samples with an artistic approach applied to haute couture.

Methodology

The course is based on a practical methodology, where learning takes place through direct experimentation with embroidery materials, tools, and techniques. Each session combines technical explanations with applied exercises that allow participants to progressively acquire skill, precision, and control in their work.

Throughout the program, students work on developing their own samples, integrating the knowledge they have acquired into personal projects. Teacher support allows the process to be adapted to each student’s learning pace, fostering creativity and the use of embroidery as an expressive tool.
