About ESDi

ESDi is a leading centre in university design studies, with over 30 years of experience training designers. Its campus, located in a former textile mill of more than 14,000 m² in the centre of Sabadell, is equipped with innovative technology and the best tools for both learning and practising design.

Being the only centre with six design specialisations (fashion, graphic, product, interior, audiovisual and multidisciplinary integration), it is a pioneer in Spain in Smart Design and Digital Humanities studies. ESDi Higher School of Design (which is affiliated with the Ramon Llull University) is also the first university to offer the double degree of Official Undergraduate Degree in Design + Bachelor in Smart Design, as well as the possibility of carrying out these studies in English.

Our history

In 1989, the Textile Design Foundation (FUNDIT) was created with the aim of making the Catalan textile sector more competitive, as well as of meeting the needs of society and industry. FUNDIT is made up of government bodies, business groups and significant companies in the sector (Ministry of Industry, Generalitat de Catalunya, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sabadell, Manufacturers' Guild, among others).

In this context, ESDi was founded that same year in the Docks building in Sabadell, a former textile mill located in the centre of the city. In 1992, ESDi became one of the first training centres in Spain to offer university studies in design, awarding a Ramon Llull University-specific degree in Design.

In 2000, the centre signed its academic merger with the School of Fashion Arts and Techniques (EATM) in Barcelona, thereby committing to the training of specific professional profiles in the fashion industry.

Since the 2008-2009 academic year, ESDi teaches the Official Undergraduate Degree in Design as a centre affiliated to the Ramon Llull University, following the guidelines established in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

Although the origin of ESDi is to be found in the field of fashion and textile, the centre is progressively incorporating training in 5 more curricular itineraries: Graphic, Product, Interior, Audiovisual and Multidisciplinary Integration (Design Management). ESDi also teaches official and professionalising university master's degrees, qualifying students for access to the labour market and a doctorate.

In the 2015-2016 academic year, ESDi added the Bachelor in Smart Design to its training offer, being a pioneer in specialised training in this field. It has a significant presence in design trends and many job opportunities for the present and future. That same year, 2015, ESDi made an important strategic move by creating EFPA, the Advanced Professional Training School that offers Higher Level Training Courses specialised in the field of textile.

Our schools

In addition to the ESDi School of Design, the Textile Design Foundation FUNDIT has two other schools specialising in training in the fashion and textile sector: the EATM School of Fashion Arts and Techniques and the EFPA School of Advanced Professional Training.

EATM (Escuela de Artes y Técnicas de la Moda)

The EATM School of Fashion Arts and Techniques was founded in 1968 by a group of textile and clothing manufacturers who were convinced of the importance of training professionals in the field of fashion design.

Today, EATM focuses on the continuous and advanced training of specific professional profiles in the fashion, communication and design industry, in accordance with the current business demand. Located in Paseo de Gracia, the heart of fashion and trends in Barcelona, it offers quality higher vocational training, adjusted to global, open and plural market scenarios.

With over 50 years of experience, EATM has trained renowned professionals such as Ze García, Miriam Ponsa, Rosa Esteva (Cortana), Josep Abril and Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada, among many others.

EFPA (Escuela de Formación Profesional Avanzada)

EFPA School of Advanced Vocational Training was founded in 2015 with the aim of offering quality Higher Level Training Cycles related to fashion and the textile industry. Its programmes incorporate a strong technical and practical aspect, which is developed in the workshops that ESDi Higher School of Design has in its state-of-the-art facilities in Sabadell. It currently offers Higher Level Training Cycles in Pattern Making and Fashion, and in Made-to-Measure and Show Costumes.
