21 Oct ‘Cartons Life’, finalist in the Catalonia Ecodesign Awards
The project “Cartons Life”, conceived within the framework of the subject Ethics of the Profession of the 2nd year of the Degree in Design, has been selected as a finalist in the Catalonia Ecodesign Awards 2021. Tutored by professors Antoni Mañach and Marcelo de Medeiros, it is a project of social inclusion through the recovery of materials and labor dignity.
Students Sara Pérez, Raúl Fidalgo, Noelia López and Miquel Martínez, from the interiors program, designed lamps made from recycled cardboard (95%) and reusable LEDs (5%). With these designs, they aimed to define a new sustainable life cycle and provide a second life to cardboard boxes, whose use has increased with the increase in online orders caused by the pandemic.
The project also aims to help disadvantaged people, giving them work and value within society. From this work, they are also offered to show the world their story through a weft made by them in the products, creating a megaphone for these voices that have been muffled by the ignorance of people and society.
Cartons Life has been selected as a finalist among the 131 proposals submitted to the Catalonia Ecodesign Awards 2021, competing in the Young Design category.
