14 Sep ESDi x Barcelona Gallery Weekend
Barcelona Gallery Weekend will take place from 15 to 18 September, in an 8th edition that will consolidate its presence in the international art calendar. Barcelona Gallery Weekend, organised by the Art Barcelona association, is a cultural event that spotlights the work done by art galleries as both places that generate culture and knowledge and places for experimentation and discovery that bring together artists, collectors, the general public, and institutions. The event champions the gallery as the fundamental pillar of the artistic ecosystem and celebrates its role in developing art and culture.
For this edition, 32 galleries will be participating: 26 in Barcelona, 5 in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, and 1 in Santa Margarida i els Monjos (Penedès region). Some of them, such as RocioSantaCruz, etHALL, Chiquita Room, Dilalica or ADN Galeria are galleries with agreements or collaborations with the Master’s Degree in Digital Art Curating (ESDi-URL).
All of the exhibitions – free and open to all, as usual – open simultaneously on Thursday 15 September: from 12-noon for professionals and from 6 p.m. for the general public.
The works of around 70 artists from 20 countries will be on display. The programme of exhibitions for Barcelona Gallery Weekend will be accompanied by a packed programme of complementary activities of different kinds in the galleries themselves. Various gatherings, talks, walks, presentations, and guided tours will give visitors the opportunity to get to know the artists and gallerists better and delve deeper into the themes dealt with in the exhibitions.
Barcelona Gallery Weekend also offers a Professional Programme, aimed primarily at collectors, art critics, curators, and representatives of national and international cultural institutions. BGW puts together tailor-made activities designed for professionals to get to know Barcelona’s artistic offering, build networks of contacts, and strengthen existing connections. Barcelona Gallery Weekend’s Professional Programme is made possible by collaboration from Exibart.es, the multi-channel interactive platform dedicated to promoting contemporary art in the Spanish context; the law firm Cuatrecasas, which is once again strengthening its contribution to Barcelona’s art scene; and the ESDi Higher School of Design, which has designed and produced the bags for this year: a limited edition made in collaboration with artist Esther Ferrer and àngels barcelona, the gallery representing her. This is the first collaborative action between ESDi and Barcelona Gallery Weekend, which will be followed by various proposals carried out together with the students of the Undergraduate Degree in Design – Fashion speciality, who will be inspired by the works of the artists exhibited in the galleries to design their fashion projects.
