30 May ESDi Alumni Eneko Iturbe wins in Bilbao as best Basque designer
Tradition and contemporaneity are the keys to the “Terre” collection, by Eneko Iturbe, winner of Best Basque Designer in the latest edition of Bilbao International Art & Fashion (BIAF).
Among a group of finalists constituted by emerging designers of 12 nationalities, Iturbe was awarded with a prize of 5,000 euros aimed at enhancing Basque design and creativity, and positioning the designers of the Autonomous Community both locally and internationally.
Selected by a jury chaired by Sara Sozzani Matino, editor-in-chief of Vogue Italia, Iturbe’s collection was inspired by the pictorial work of the architect and painter Vaquero Palacios, and “invites us to analyze the daily life and way of life of the people who lived in the humble post-war villages portrayed by the painter. ”
To materialize the concept, the work uses the traditional wool of the classic tailoring, rayon linings with iridescent to two colors, and drawings of jaguar, silks of shirt and sidú for details in the garments.
