ESDi, an educational center focused in design, has the AQU quality accreditation, correspondent to the institutional evaluation program of affiliated centers (April 21 of 2016). Academic quality
The CEE therefore emitted a very positive report for the center, which highlights elements such as its infrastructure, its human resources (faculty and staff members) and the quality of its teaching methods. It also underlines the following strong points:
The implication of those who are responsible in the efficient development of the Degree’s formative cycle.
The faculty’s quality and its motivations for improving its professional promotion and implication in research initiatives.
The excellent faculty coordination, which gives consistency to the educational training.
The constant will to improve.
The students’ satisfaction with the treatment and the education received, potentiated by the familiar and close environment of the center.
The high degree of adaptation of the center’s facilities, and the budget dedicated to the up keeping and the purchase of innovative material.
The educational quality: a foundational goal
ESDi was born as an initiative of FUNDIT, with the goal of equating design as a university discipline, as it occurred in other countries of Europe and the rest of the world.
Because of this, the quality in design education is one of the requisites established by the Foundation since it was created, in 1989, and reassured in 1998 through three core elements:
The development of the teaching process, with annual periodicity. The goal of this axis is to determine the quality of the development of the knowledge transmission process.
The adaptation to the scientific, technic and social innovations, with biannual periodicity. The goal of this second axis is to gather the necessary information in order to determine if the studies and the technological tools are adjusted to the demands of the socio-economic environment in which the graduates must develop their careers.
The adaptation to the socio-entrepreneurial reality and the evolution of the professional careers, with a five-year periodicity. This third axis is developed every 5 years, and it aims to follow up on our students’ professional careers and their adaptation to the demands of the productive tissue.
The responsibility to guarantee the quality of the studies depends on the Direction and the managerial and academic direction organs.
System for the Guarantee of Internal Quality
The System for the Internal Guarantee of Quality (SGIC) is a compilation of all the actions undertaken for the follow-up, improvement and updating of the studies done within the center and arranged with the Ramon Llull University.
The ESDi SGIQ, part of the transparency commitment that is demanded of universities from the European Higher Education Area, was presented at the Agency for the Quality of Catalonia’s University System (AQU), within the program AUDIT 2010, for its evaluation and certification.
From that year onwards, the program started a modifications phase, with the intention of incorporating all the requirements established from public agencies for the follow-up of the university quality within Europe.
Now that said period is over, the AQU has approved the SGIC, the System for the Internal Guarantee of Quality of ESDi. The SGIC was approved through a report with the title “Final evaluation report concerning the design of the system for the internal guarantee of quality”, dated November 23.
