Academic quality

ESDi was born as an initiative of FUNDIT, with the goal of making design a university discipline, as it occurred in other European countries and the rest of the world. This is why the quality of the design training given at ESDi is one of the requirements established by the Foundation since it was created in 1989, and they were reinforced in 1998 through three core elements:

Core
elements

⟶ Development of the teaching process on an annual basis. The purpose of this axis is to determine the quality of the development of the knowledge transmission process.

⟶ Adaptation to the scientific, technical and social advances on a biannual basis. The purpose of this second axis is to gather the necessary information to determine whether the studies and technological tools are in line with the demands of the socio-economic environment in which the graduates must provide professional services.

⟶ Adaptation to the socio-business reality and the evolution of professional careers on a five-year basis. This third axis is carried out every 5 years, and it aims to follow up the professional careers of graduates and their adaptation to the demands of the production system.

Internal Quality Assurance System

ESDi has an internal quality assurance system (SGIQ-ESDi), formally established and implemented since 2010, which ensures the quality and continuous improvement of our degrees, from the centre itself and in agreement with the Universitat Ramon Llull.

In the academic year 2010-2011, it joined the AUDIT programme of the University Quality Agency. The programme encourages and promotes the development and implementation of internal quality assurance systems in university centres. It also certifies these quality systems, implementing the SGIQ-ESDi and verifying the first version of the SGIQ Quality Manual. This manual was also verified by AQU on November 23rd, 2011. Version 2.1 of the quality manual was verified by the UQIAD of the URL on August 26th, 2015.

The D0SEG process (Monitoring of quality processes) of the Quality Manual establishes that the overall review of the ESDi's SGIQ is carried out every two years, in accordance with the calendar that follows the Process of contribution to the monitoring, review and improvement of the centre's SGIQ, defined transversally for all the centres of the Universitat Ramon Llull.

In the biennial report 2017-2019 ESDi raised the need to update the Quality Manual version 3.0, which was approved by the Academic and Teaching Quality and Innovation Unit of the Universitat Ramon Llull on November 25th, 2020.
